Do you have ideas about DDD? Be it the one held in Reading, Scotland, the South West, Ireland or even WebDD - we want your feedback.
Pop your ideas down here with as much description as needed.
Thanks,
DDD Team.
Ideas
1. Issue tickets as a lottery.
2. Hold the Reading event in a bigger venue.
2a. I think this has been suggested before but run the same set of sessions on a Saturday and Sunday.
3. Multiday Event - More sessions over more days (Full weekend perhaps?)
4. Issue tickets at 2 - 3 points around the clock. Say 13:00 20:00 and 01:00 GMT
5. Run six sessions during the day instead of just five.
6. Charge a small amount (£20ish)
7. Have more tracks (6-7 rooms?)
8. Have Tea/Coffee available during all breaks if possible. (DDDSW had this one nailed. Food and drink was amazing.)
Comment from DDD Scotland Organiser: From the perspective of DDD Scotland the refreshments are related to the amount of sponsorship we are able to raise. If we can't raise enough sponsorship we can't provide the catering at a level we'd like. We are always looking for sponsors so if you have any contacts we'd love to know - support@scottishdevelopers.com
9. Publish session agenda prior to opening for registrations in order that people can decide whether they want to attend up front, rather than registering then deciding the sessions aren't as interesting as initially thought, and subsequently cancelling.
10. Announce 'registration open' by personal email rather than just Twitter & the mswebdev list.
11. Sell a set number of the tickets ahead of time - allow people to chose to pay for a guaranteed ticket, or to try when it is open to the public.
12. Post publicly on the web ahead of time what the registration procedure is - what date and time, what the URL will be for the registration page, what you will need to have.
13. have some tracks set aside for advanced topics.
14. Have a waitlist for speakers as well - so if a speaker pulls out, there are other speakers ready to step in.
15. Video the sessions and put them on cloud storage (where the downloader would pay for the download (Amazon S3?) ). Would help raise funds, and give non-attendees the chance to see the sessions.
16. Get other Dev related companies to have a couple of stands there (as opposed to just computer manuals). Maybe Dev Express could do one?
17. Publish a list of who's attending - could help with car-sharing etc
18. Post (on the main ddd site) a link to the wiki.. I only found this page after it was mentioned at the end of Saturday.
19. 2nd hand book stall. Attendee's could bring their old books along, leave on a nominated desk. Other attendees could then take them, maybe leaving a donation to some local charity (or funds for DDD). At the end of the day, any books left could be taken to local oxfam, or recycled... Would help reduce the impact of new books collected at these events... ;-)
